The selection for the appointment of an applicant is merit-based. This is judged by the combination of scores derived from:
- Application Content
- Curriculum Vitae
- Referee Reports
- The Interview
Selection Criteria
- Prerequisites for entry into the training program
- High standard of academic performance
- Dedication and interest in pursuing a career in clinical radiology
- Prior publication record and commitment to research
- Good common routine procedural skills e.g., lumbar puncture, pleural tap to be considered as an advantage
- High standard of analytical and reasoning skills
- Good interpersonal and professional communication skills
- Personal commitment to continuing professional education and development
- Commendable professional referee reports
- Commendable reports from previous and current employers
- Experience in a broad spectrum of clinical disciplines prior to undertaking radiology training
Noteworthy Remarks
- Rural applicants are given “appropriate weighting … so as to achieve a proportionate distribution of practicing clinical radiologists”
Interviews
- All short listed candidates should be interviewed
- Who sits on the interview panel? It varies but it generally includes:
- A designated convenor
- A male and female representative
- A regional/rural/non-tertiary representative
- An independent not directly employed by the facility or reporting structure in which the position is based
- A Director of Training (DoT)
- Human Resources staff
- A private practice representative
Selection Process
- Following the interviews, a list ranking all applicants is made.
- There should be an eligibility list of appointable applicants and a list of applicants who are deemed
unappointable based on the selection criteria and performance at the interview. - All appointable applicants should be ranked and those who are ranked sufficiently high to match the number of available positions should be offered those positions.
- Any position not filled by the preferred applicant should be offered to the next highest ranked applicant.
- The final decision on the offer of a position to a training network, specific hospital, Health Service or private practice is based on the requirements of the organisation and may be guided by the applicant’s preference
